A nice weather pattern for the remainder of the week with moderately warm conditions today and Thursday and then it becomes very warm for the late week and weekend. We’re not quite done yet with the cold air intrusions into the northeastern part of the nation and the next strong cold front can produce some strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity tonight in portions of the southern Mid-Atlantic region with downpours, vivid lightning and damaging wind gusts on the table. Following the passage of a strong cold front, the winds will become a big factor on Tuesday and Tuesday night with gusts of 40 mph or so from a west-to-northwest direction. The risk of severe weather will increase this weekend across the nation’s mid-section as another clash develops between incoming cold, dry air to the west and warm, humid air to the east.

High pressure shifts to the east of here today and it’ll warm up to the lower 80’s this afternoon on its backside with gusty winds developing from a southwesterly direction. After a frontal passage later tonight, temperatures will trend downward on Tuesday and likely be confined to the 60’s for afternoon highs to go along with mainly sunny skies.

The week will end with partial sunshine and the slight chance of showers with afternoon temperatures reaching the lower 60’s. The weekend looks quite decent with some sunshine expected on both days and highs climbing to near 70 degrees by Sunday afternoon.

An unseasonably chilly air mass has pushed into the eastern states and temperatures today will do no better than the middle 50’s for afternoon highs and there will be a stiff N-NW wind as well. Winds will calm down tonight leading to very favorable conditions for radiational cooling and the end result is likely to be overnight lows near 30 degrees and widespread frost across northern Alabama.

Unseasonably warm weather is coming to northern Alabama for the next few days with afternoon highs in the middle 80’s. There can be some shower activity as well on occasion, but the heaviest and steadiest rain looks to fall to our north and west in coming days where excessive amounts are possible. There will be a good chance of showers and storms around here on Sunday at which time a frontal system will side across the area to be followed by cooler weather early next week.

The risk is high today for a severe weather outbreak across the Tennessee Valley, Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley, and Mid-South and this threat includes the possibility of multiple strong (EF-3+) tornadoes. Numerous ingredients are coming together to result in a widespread severe weather outbreak later today and tonight including strong jet streaks at multiple levels of the atmosphere, a clash of air masses with cold, dry air to the north and west and warm, humid air to the east and south, and a strong surface low pressure system with its attendant cold front. In addition to the severe weather, it appears that a multi-day extreme rainfall event is on the way for much of this same part of the nation from later today through the first half of the weekend with widespread flooding a serious concern.

A very unsettled weather pattern is coming to the Middle Mississippi Valley and Tennessee Valley regions that will include a severe weather threat from later today into tonight and an excessive rainfall threat through the upcoming weekend. Much of the activity both in terms of severe weather and heavy rainfall we’ll likely stay just to our west and north into Friday, but we’ll have to keep a close eye on it...as it stands, some decent rainfall is still likely around here and there certainly can be some strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity as well.

Today will be quite comfortable across the region with afternoon highs not far from the 70-degree mark to go along with plenty of sunshine. It turns warmer on Tuesday with temperatures climbing to the 80’s and the late week can feature unusually warm conditions with highs potentially climbing all the way to the middle 80’s. It will also become quite unsettled for the late week and weekend with a daily shot at some shower and thunderstorm activity.
